Wallpaper Guide: Atelier's Five Favorites & Where to Use Them

Word on the street is that wallpaper is back and better than ever. We say it was never ‘out’. If you’ve visited the Atelier Interior Design Instagram or taken even a quick glance at our work, you know that we absolutely love wallpaper - and always have. Our goal with every project is to design a space that is a direct reflection of our client’s unique personality and nothing says ‘personality’ more than a bold wallpaper. All that being said, finding the perfect one and knowing where and how to use it can be tricky. But don’t worry. Like always, we’re taking the guesswork out of it.

As part of our Shop Talk series we chatted with Batya Stepelman of WallTawk, a Colorado-based wallpaper boutique and design consultancy, about the designers she carries, what styles and patterns are hot right now, and much more. We walked away from our discussion with Batya feeling inspired to make an easy to follow wallpaper guide for our followers and readers. After all, who doesn’t want to install fun wallpaper in their space? Below check out five wallpapers that we are loving - selected from Batya’s designers - and our tips on how to use them in your own home!

Flavor Paper: Enfume Mural in Acid

Described as “an easy escape to the stunning Smoky Mountains with its rich painterly details and full-spectrum flora”, we absolutely love the color scheme in this mural by Flavor Paper. Atelier’s Owner and Lead Interior Designer, Katie, installed this very paper in her office — and we’d suggest you use it in the same way in your own office or study. Here’s why:

  • It’s almost otherworldly in the acid colorway so you feel like you’ve been transported to an utterly beautiful place

  • The landscape is serene, making it perfect for a room that you need to be calm and focused in

Check out how it looks in Katie’s office:

Kelly Ventura: Verte Wallpaper in Mink

Kelly Ventura is a Michigan-based watercolor artist who brings her love of nature into the home with the expressive strokes of her paint brush. This love for nature and the changing seasons is evident in her Verte Wallpaper, which is the perfect blend of moody and whimsical. If we were to use it, we would no doubt use it in a bedroom. Not only does it make you dream of curling up with a good book in an English countryside cottage, just think of the bedding opportunities that would complement it!

Emma Hayes: Daybreak Wallpaper in Verde

Emma Hayes designs are “an amalgamation of artistic techniques – hand made marks, drawings, paintings or experiments – and digital processes.” The brand’s Daybreak Wallpaper in Verde has so much movement. It’s like you can feel the breeze it’s giving off. We think this design would be so rad as an accent wall in a bedroom or if you want to go even bolder, on all walls in a dining room. Talk about a statement!

House of Hackney: DINOSAURIA Wallpaper in Plaster

Described as “at once spirited and sophisticated”, House of Hackney’s DINOSAURIA Wallpaper can be loved and appreciated by all, Jurassic Park fan or not. In our opinion, this wallpaper is just the perfect representation of sophisticated playfulness. It's giving "I'm serious, but I can have a good time.” We’ve used it a bedroom before and it was so fitting. Katie, Atelier Interior Design Owner, is also about to put this in her powder room, which is another fitting location for this motif.

17 Patterns: Forager Stone Wallpaper

Exploring the mysteries of nature’s treasure trove, 17 Patterns’ Forager Stone Wallpaper is the kind of pattern that isn’t for everyone. There is definitely a time and place for it. That said, it is SCREAMING to be put in a kitchen or dining room. It provides the perfect opportunity to be literal, but in a very artistic and cool way.
