What's Hot: 2023 Interior Design Trends
Like we’ve said before, we aren’t about trends over here at Atelier Interior Design. Our designs are based entirely on our Color, Pattern, Culture mantra and what fits the personalities of our clients. That said, we still start each year by taking a look at what is new and emerging, such as furniture shapes and styles, and what has been around for decades, such as chrome, and decide if we’re feeling it or not for upcoming projects. The world of interior design is constantly evolving and although we don’t subscribe to trends, it’s our duty to our clients to stay in-the-know about all-things home and interiors.
Now that we are almost a month into 2023, we’ve got a pulse on what we think is hot this year for our projects and clients. Keep scrolling for a list of Atelier’s 2023 interior design trends!
COLORS: FROM COOL TO WARM
This year we are already seeing a shift from cool color tones to warm tones, especially leaning on the brown side with mauve, dusty pink, and brick colors. One that stands out to us - and that we can’t wait to incorporate into a project - is Benjamin Moore’s Tawny Port 1281, “a dark red flooded with warmth, this muted hue is reminiscent of a barrel-aged wine”.

MIXING METALS
Mixing metals has been a thing, but this trend is really taking off in 2023. Chrome is making a strong comeback, brass is, and will always be, a favorite, bronze is classic, raw metals are no longer just for old warehouses and industrial lofts… should we keep going? Mixing metals is growing in popularity and since we have always mixed metals, we are embracing it!
SCULPTURAL FURNITURE
Sculptural furniture, essentially pieces that are like a work of art, are going to be big for us this year. We have our eyes set on coffee tables, end tables, sofas, chairs, etc that have unique lines and curves and that make a big impact - artistic furniture that act like art themselves.
PATTERNED FLOORING
From wood flooring to carpet, you are going to be seeing much more patterned flooring. Wood flooring patterns are a classic design trend that stands the test of time, as it can be seen all over European architecture, but we feel like people in the USA are starting to see the value in creating visual interest below the feet. Wood flooring was once valued predominantly for durability, and carpet predominantly for comfort, but now they are seen as design features and not just base highlights for other more outstanding design elements. We have to start that design from the ground-up people!
CURVES AREN’T LEAVING
People are finally (FINALLY!) warming up to curves - at least here in Colorado it took some time. Curves create fluidity and contrast to the squareness of the structure of a room. Mostly, we are seeing this curvaceous shift in curved seating, the return of the mushroom lampshade, and archways. What isn’t to love?
