The windows are enhanced with heavy velvet drapery layered with textural sheers. The contemporary rug design frames the space showing off the ornately patterned, curved sofas. This room makes me want to sit back with friends while sipping a Manhattan. Shapely, embracing and high style describe these elegant, livable rooms.

The family room segues naturally from the formal areas. Just as plush but more laid back this area again is an eye catching display of diverse patterns complimenting each other in their dynamic mix of size, shape and movement. Look closely to see what we mean; start with wood flooring and trim, followed by a large patterned rug, the customized sofa displays a different base than the body allowing the pillows, welting, nail-heads and drapery to finish off the look. Subtle color ensconces the entire space adding tranquility throughout. Although there is a lot going on the feeling is comforting and the patterns are contingent on each other to create the full effect.

The bones are brick, glass, wood and stainless. International patterns were our inspiration. We conveyed an invitation to relax regardless of who you are. Not only do worlds collide here but so do the masculine and feminine. The structured sofa is softened by plush velvet. Massive windows are framed by cascading linen drapes with grommets and tassels. The moody black chandelier hovers above the sculpted table. The Moroccan lounge area is ensconced in leather, layered light, lavish pillows an elaborate inlaid table and a baroque mirror.

No need to travel when home is such a universal display of comfort and great taste.

This home exudes tactile pleasure; slick glass backsplashes, smooth concrete, resin, nubby grass cloth, textiles and a variety of wood stains which add nature and warmth.

Obviously the homeowners are not afraid of color, bold oranges, fuschia and avocado pair with deep browns, cream and purples. Tasteful and fun at the same time.

The layers of lights from natural clearstory windows, high tech task lighting, colorful opaque arabesque globes and glam shimmery light drums make the spaces stimulating, dynamic and perfect regardless of the time of day.

Find respite in the master bath with soft hues meshed with natural elements. Notice the metal banding (Schluter) around the backsplash and how the subtle matte glass ovals are repeated perfectly to increase the visual interest in this simple, clean setting.

A little bling goes a long way in this girl’s duel bathroom. Another sink and vanity is adjacent giving both girls ample privacy in a shared space. The turquoise ceilings and tile bandings are elements appropriate for any age. Who wouldn’t love the sparkle of the Swarovski Crystal light fixtures that dance with light and color?

We can’t stress how much we enjoyed this project! The homeowners were adventurous and open. The complete team including architect, interior designers (us), contractor, crafts people and landscape architects made for uncompromised quality with complete visualization and actualization.

Although the primary use of the salon space is for hair styling it also acts as social forum.  The open malleable plan is great for parties and gatherings where the latest fashion, du and general trend can be found.  The front of the house is where guests are met and acts as an important designated area.  We enjoy Boulder projects because the culture is very open-minded, energized and intellectual.

After leaving the spa the bedroom is a place of respite and revival.  Upholstered bed, custom bedding, wavy tactile carpet, dreamy lighting and a blend of hand picked furniture pieces make this bedroom a relaxing getaway.

In addition, hand-made metal railings replaced out of date wooden spindles, rich wood floors were revealed and the remodel continued to the main level where the office, dining room, kitchen nook and living room were transformed as well.

In the living room, the fireplace was completely modernized with a new component, tile and a cantilevered mantel.  Before it was “Oak Express” and not a pretty site.  Bookcases were backed with Romo wallpaper, glass shelves and lights were added, the frames were painted a warm orange and a custom cushions finished off the bench.  Rugs and rich upholstery maximize the color scheme with just the right amount of pattern.

The new kitchen nook makes you feel as though you are in your favorite restaurant every day of the week.  The banquette was custom fabricated especially to fit the space as well as the table frame and top.  Fabrics on the banquettes upholstery and window treatments play nicely off each other.

Segue into the dining room where wainscoting added formality and allowed the rich paint color to add the perfect amount of drama.  Simple, elegant lighting adjusts for all levels of lighting and accentuates the art selected by the homeowner.  The chair and window fabrics and the rug give the room softness and bring the simple furnishings to a new level.

The powder room was perhaps the most fun.  Asian fusion meets modernity.  Floating cabinetry, European sinks and fancy fabric lighting simply add flair and sophistication.

Other additions to the home include adding wainscoting to the office, paint throughout, new rugs, tile backsplash and hardware in the kitchen, added art and accessories.

This is a project where the clients took 18 month through planning and process to make their entire home cohesive, personal and stylish.  We thoroughly enjoyed this collaborative process and the client as well as the designers, feel satisfied with the overall outcome.

When the owner of Vain Salon first contacted Katie Schroder of Atelier Interior Design about turning her space into something special, she said she wanted “a colorful, warm, Dr. Seuss” look. Still, when Schroder and her team suggested a very bold color palette, the salon owner was a little wary, but the owner was wild about the finished product. So wild, in fact, that when Revive Day Spa moved in to the other half of the building, the owners asked Schroder to work her magic in their space as well.

Schroder chose strong paint colors and stained the concrete floors. The front desk is made of metal, hand-ground to create the pattern seen here. The circles are of colored resin, and the desktop is espresso wood.

Schroder went with a selection of custom fabrics for the pendant lamps that hang over the reception desk and for the large drum lights seen throughout the space. The “Vain” sign and the color-blocked wall were done by Kerry Aufderheide of Blue Table Studio.

Drapes of white eyelet from Pollack add length and light to the mani/pedi room. The walls here combine a springy avocado color with floor-to-ceiling tufted white vinyl above the built-in pedi chairs. At right, a bamboo pattern painted directly on the wall was more cost effective for the project than a similar wallpaper. The floor lamp at left is from West Elm. The manicure table is a custom bentwood piece. The armchairs are from the Hammer Collection, upholstered with another Pollack fabric.

The Revive reception desk is fronted with tufted white vinyl for texture, and all the furniture in the greeting area is custom made. The wall behind the desk is another creation of Blue Table Studio. The faux wood panels are softened by the zen-inspired branch motif. The wall sconces are from Fine Art Lamps. Other walls are white to give the space crispness, and then Schroder added pops of avocado for color. The 20-foot ceiling soars overhead, and the Atelier team painted it chocolate brown to offset the height “” in addition to ordering lots of extra arm for the pendant lamps.

The challenges were the small budget, cramped space and limited allocation for furniture placement due to windows and door openings.

This space exhibits deep rich chocolate brown walls that allow the art and accessories to pop.  The dove gray ceiling color is dropped down to create visual interest and incorporates the lines of the wood molding.  The lightness of the ceiling juxtaposed to the dark walls elevates the room making it seem less heavy.   Egyptian gold gilds the fireplace wall adding a strong, alluring focal point.

Simple contemporary furnishings do not compete with the Victorian flair of the original architecture.  An Italianate furniture layout of two facing sofas is all this small space needs to make this room perfectly convivial.

Hints of blue in the accessories and in the sofa add another layer of depth with brightness and color.  The striking mirror lends texture while the glass tables help to alleviate a cluttered look.  Straight forward cream window treatments lighten the room.

Day or night this room has become a relaxing oasis that is comfortable, creative and fun for entertaining.

The massive scale of the dwelling was unwelcoming and severe.  Existing materials lacked warmth and the details had no enhancement.

Sweeping walkways and an interesting breakup of the structure gave us inspiration to humanize and bring the spaces together in a cohesive stream that lent to comfort, visual beauty and balance.

The entire interior is painted in a warm neutral which allows for all the finishes to have a harmony that is carried throughout the space and allowing the details to gracefully show themselves.

Adding natural hues on the home’s exterior helped it to blend with the surrounding natural environment.  At the entry hand carved woodwork from Thailand adorn the doors with lively pictorials.  Inside Italian travertine floors make a stunning transition from the wood.

In the living room your eyes peacefully start from the top of the windows working their way down the cascading velvet drapes to the fauxed niches, custom art, and mantel and finally to the rug and furnishings.  These elements work together with various levels of plum accented by warm hues personalizing the space.
